Zachary Hiller

Senior Attorney

Zachary Hiller is a Senior Attorney at Kearney, McWilliams & Davis, PLLC with over 14 years of specialized experience handling intellectual property matters. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and received his Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston.

Mr. Hiller focuses his practice on intellectual property strategy, patent drafting and prosecution, and technology-driven commercial matters. He represents entrepreneurs, growth-stage companies, and established businesses in the development, protection, enforcement, and commercialization of intellectual property assets, with particular emphasis on mechanical systems, software-as-a-service platforms, and emerging technologies.

With a background in mechanical engineering, Mr. Hiller regularly prepares and prosecutes patent applications involving electromechanical devices, industrial equipment, energy-related technologies, consumer products, and software-enabled innovations. He advises founders, engineering teams, and executive leadership on patent portfolio strategy aligned with investment, product development, and long-term enterprise value. His experience also includes trademark prosecution, licensing and technology transfer agreements, and intellectual property due diligence and risk assessment in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and financing transactions.

A defining feature of Mr. Hiller’s practice is proactive risk management. He approaches each engagement with an understanding of how matters may be evaluated in litigation, enabling him to structure filings, agreements, and enforcement strategies that minimize exposure and strengthen negotiating leverage. This strategic perspective allows him to resolve disputes efficiently while positioning clients effectively when formal proceedings become necessary.

Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Hiller co-founded William Price Distilling, a Texas craft spirits company, and remains involved in strategic operations and brand development. He is active in the Houston community, volunteering with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and serving the Texas Rugby Union as a board member and USA Rugby Community Judicial Officer. He resides in Houston with his wife and son.

Zack is based in the Houston, Texas office of Kearney McWilliams & Davis, PLLC.
